High school students should study only the subjects they choose
Nowadays when the educational system is undergoing change, the necessity of every subject in high school is considered a burning issue. Some people have no doubt that students should be enabled to choose the subjects themselves, whereas others are convinced that compulsory subjects cannot be excluded from the high school curriculum.
Personally, I hold to the opinion that teenagers should be given liberty to choose the subjects themselves. Firstly, forcing students to take the subjects they are not keen on can result in lack of motivation and deterioration in students’ academic performance. Secondly, the majority of teenagers already have a general idea of their future occupation when high school starts. Thus, there is no need to waste time on Physics when one is preparing to take Biology and Chemistry to pursue career in medicine.
However, opponents of this view believe that all subjects in high school should be mandatory. According to
